“There are objects around us which draw our attention and there are objects which do not. Once something captures our attention, we keep noticing it again. Our attitudes toward various subjects are always biased. The development of our personality is largely shaped by the stimuli in our environment. Visual information we perceive becomes embedded in our unconscious mind and surfaces in our behavioral traits. Consequently, recognizing these traits in our surroundings makes us biased.”
While this statement by Data Patatishvili holds a broad and general nature, it becomes significant when applied to his own photography. Within his works, there is a subtle yet uniquely individual shift in perception. This elusive quality lends his photographs a dream-like essence that defies easy definition.
